Library Card

  • To check out library materials, you must present your Indiana University borrower's card at the Circulation/Reserves service desk.
  • IU Kokomo students, full-time and adjunct faculty, and staff use their IU Kokomo ID cards as library cards.
  • IU Kokomo ID cards must be activated to serve as library cards. This can be done at the Circulation/Reserves service desk.
  • Any resident of the state of Indiana who is 18 years and older may be issued a borrower's card by completing an Indiana Resident Library Card Application form and providing a photo ID and proof of residency. The Indiana Resident Library Card Application Policy (PDF) outlines acceptable forms of identification and proof of residency. Minors 16-17 years of age may be issued a card in accordance with the Indiana Resident Library Card Policy and a special application form which requires a parent or quardian to be present and provide photo ID and proof of residency.
  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported to the Library and may be replaced by paying a $5 replacement fee.

If you are an IU Kokomo student, learn more about the library cards available to you on our Library Cards for Students page.

To obtain a student ID, visit the Bursar's Office, located in Room 205 in the Kelley Student Center.

If you are not affiliated with IU Kokomo but would like to visit our library, learn more about obtaining a borrower's card and searching our catalog on our Library Cards for Indiana Residents page.

Borrower's Responsibilities

Materials checked out on your card are your responsibility. You are responsible for being aware of the policies (due date, fines, and fees for late materials) associated with checking out any item(s). Circulation Policies. Loan periods and a fine schedule are available for your review. Loan Periods and Fine Schedule.

Holds/Recalls

Items that are checked out may have either a hold or recall placed on them. If a library book or other resource is checked out, a hold may be placed on the item. Users may place a hold on an item by providing printouts of both the item from IUCAT and the user's library card. Printouts should be given to staff at the Circulation/Reserves service desk. When the item is returned, the user will be notified of the availability of the item.

Indiana University affiliated users with valid Indiana University accounts may renew materials online using the "My Account" feature within IUCAT. See our Renew Library Materials page for additional details on how to renew items through IUCAT.

Reserves

Items placed on reserve by an instructor may be retrieved at the Circulation/Reserves service desk. Please have the name of the instructor, the course number, and the title of the item on-hand.

Faculty wanting to place items on Reserve for their classes should contact the Circulation/Reserves service desk staff for forms and policies. For more details regarding placing items on reserve, please see our Library Reserves Policy page.

Requesting Materials from Other Libraries

Materials from other Indiana University libraries may be requested by IU Kokomo students, faculty, and staff via the Request Delivery feature in IUCAT, the IU Libraries' catalog. If the IU Libraries do not have the materials you need, items may also be borrowed from other, non-IU libraries via our Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) service. Indiana University is also a member of several faculty reciprocal borrowing programs that include other academic institutions both within and outside of Indiana. Faculty members may request a borrowing card that allows them borrowing privileges at participating institutions.

Please Ask A Librarian if you have questions about any of these services.
