Bachelor of Arts Degree in English

The Bachelor of Arts in English is a four-year undergraduate degree for students wishing to develop practical skills and strong knowledge in areas including, but not limited to, thinking critically, communicating clearly, writing persuasively, researching effectively and reading analytically.

English majors take exciting courses in fields as diverse as film studies, rhetoric, creative nonfiction, children’s literature, American and British Literatures, critical theory, and Irish studies. Some English majors pursue a more traditional track in Literature and Language, while others opt for concentrations in Pre-Law or Writing, Editing, and Media. The curriculum offers skills, knowledge, and in-service learning, providing valuable pathways to a variety of careers, including teaching, journalism, web content developer/writer, program manager, archivist, lobbyist, and many more. Mission

The IU Kokomo English program educates students in the liberal arts tradition and prepares graduates for a full range of careers that prioritize analytical reading, persuasive writing, and critical thinking. Our English program helps students in the region cultivate scholarly and marketable skills that emerge from the close study of language and literature in a global context, a growing facility with theoretical approaches, and expertise in research and writing processes. As students become conversant in multiple literary and textual traditions, they participate in a culture of diversity that will advance them as global citizens and innovative problem-solvers for a complex and dynamic world.

Select Campus Opportunities

The Correspondent is "The Student Voice of Indiana University Kokomo and Purdue College of Technology at Kokomo." It is a student-run newspaper, released approximately every two weeks. The staff strives to inform the campus of current news, issues, and activities. Opportunities exist for those interested in writing, editing, photography, and advertising. To apply for a position please complete an application and return it to the Office of Student Activities, KC 210.
