Verification

Verification is the process of confirming information reported by you and your parents or spouse on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is accurate. Each year, approximately 30% of student applicants nationwide are randomly selected by the Federal Central Processing System for verification. Applicants selected for review will need to complete verification before financial aid eligibility may be reviewed. All verification must be submitted no later than two weeks before the end of the semester to receive aid for that semester.

What do I need to Submit?

You will need to check your One "to-do" list for your specific items. Some items that are regularly requested are listed below. We may need all, some, or none depending on your specific FAFSA information.

Please Note: The ability to update your FAFSA by retrieving data directly from the IRS is currently unavailable, with no return timeline being given. If you are selected for verification, we strongly encourage you to move forward with ordering a tax transcript, either online at www.irs.gov or by completing and submitting a 4506T form to the IRS. The form is available through the "federal tax transcript" links listed below. If you wish to complete the online request process please follow these steps:

  • Go to www.irs.gov
  • You will see orange bars with heading and you need to go to "Tools"
  • Under "Tools" click "Get Transcript of Your Tax Records"
  • Then you can get a TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPT by mail
  • Once you have the transcript, you can email it as an attachment to finaidko@iuk.edu - include your student ID number, you can fax it to 765-455-9537, you can drop it off in person, or you can mail it to:

For 2017-2018:

  • A copy of your (and your spouse or parents, if applicable) 2015 federal tax transcript, including all schedules.
  • Household form
  • Non-Tax Filer form
  • Untaxed income form
  • Asset form
  • Additional documentation upon request.

What Happens to my Information?

The required forms and documents you submit for verification will be compared to the information reported on your 2015-2016 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If the provided information does not match what is shown on your FAFSA, we will submit changes to the FAFSA processor. After all changes are made to your FAFSA data, Indiana University Kokomo will review your eligibility for financial aid, and you will be sent a Financial Aid Notification to your IU email account.
