IU Kokomo Scholarships

Indiana University Kokomo awards more than 400 scholarships annually to qualified students. In order to be considered for any scholarship, new students must be admitted to IU Kokomo and continuing students must be registered full time for fall classes by May 1. Students are also encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online by April 15.

Recipients of the IU Kokomo ESP, STAR, ASIST, Transfer, Pre-professional, or Direct Admit scholarship cannot receive the scholarship if the amount puts the student over his/her cost of attendance.

In addition, the School of Business, Division of Education, and School of Nursing award scholarships to students in those majors. Applicants for those scholarships should contact the school for additional information and application procedures.

ESP and STAR Scholarships

Have you worked hard in high school to prepare for college and wonder whether your academic record will be recognized? Indiana University Kokomo has distinctive merit scholarship programs to recognize high school seniors who have an academic record that demonstrates potential for college success.The Early Scholars Program (ESP) and the Student Academic Recognition (STAR) program provide four-year scholarships to students who meet and maintain academic criteria. In order to be considered for the ESP or STAR Scholarships, students must complete the application for admission, provide an official high school transcript, and provide SAT or ACT test scores. Following is a summary of requirements:

2016-17 Academic Honors STAR Scholarship

  • $1,250 STAR Scholarship (renewable for three years)**
  • High school*** class rank in the top 20 percent
  • Combined SAT score (critical reading and mathematics only ) of 1000 (ACT = 21)
  • Attainment of an Academic Honors Diploma or Core 40 Diploma
  • Admitted
  • Limited funds available; priority given to early admits

2017-18 Academic Honors STAR Scholarship

  • $1,500 STAR Scholarship (renewable for three years)**
  • High school*** class rank in the top 20 percent
  • Combined NEW SAT score of 1080  (ERW & M) or ACT = 21
  • Attainment of an Academic Honors Diploma or Core 40 Diploma
  • Admitted
  • Limited funds available; priority given to early admits

**STAR scholarships are renewed for three additional years when satisfactory academic progress is achieved. Upon entering IU Kokomo, recipients of a STAR scholarship must be enrolled full time, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and complete 30 credit hours each aid year to qualify for renewal. Students must be full-time each semester to renew their ESP or STAR scholarship. Students must successfully complete at least 30 credit hours to be eligible for a second year scholarship, 60 hours for a third year scholarship, and 90 hours for a fourth year scholarship.

2016-17 Academic Honors ESP Scholarship

2017-18 Academic Honors ESP Scholarship

  • $2,500 ESP Scholarship (renewable for three years)*
  • High School*** class rank in the top 10 percent
  • Combined NEW SAT score 1220 (ERW & M) or ACT = 25
  • Attainment of an Academic Honors Diploma
  • Admitted
  • Freshman year
    • Choice of Windows or Macintosh Laptop Computer
    • Computer Software

* ESP scholarships are renewed for three additional years when satisfactory academic progress is achieved. Upon entering IU Kokomo, recipients of an ESP Scholarship must be enrolled full time, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3, and complete 30 credit hours each aid year to qualify for renewal.

Direct Admit Scholarship

The Indiana University Kokomo Direct Admit Scholarship program is designed for high achieving incoming freshmen who wish to enter the schools of nursing, education or business.  In addition to a significant monetary scholarship, this unique program offers guaranteed admission into the students’ selected program.  Competing for limited admission into a pre-professional program can be stressful.   The scholarship is designed to alleviate that burden while rewarding outstanding performance.

Students guaranteed admission into a direct admit program will receive:

  • $2500 renewable academic scholarship
  • A laptop computer (choice of Mac or PC)
  • $1000 stipend for international travel studies

In addition, all IU Kokomo students receive:

  • Tutoring assistance
  • An opportunity to join a major related student club or organization
  • Free software

Requirements for the Direct Admit Scholarship Program:

  • SAT 1220 (ERW & Math)
  • Top 10% ranking in high school graduating class
  • Maintain 3.3 GPA at IU Kokomo
  • Complete 30 credits per academic year at IU Kokomo
  • Meet with advisor for approved courses (important to take correct sequence of courses)
ACP Scholarship
  • Earn a B+ or higher in any ACP course
  • Receive a recommendation from ACP teacher
  • One-year award
Out of State Scholarship and MSEP
  • Be a non-resident domestic student 
  • High school GPA of a 3.0 (College GPA of 3.0 for transfer students)
  • Enrolled full-time
  • Not stackable with other Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) reciprocity programs
  • Online programs are not eligible for this scholarship
  • $3000 renewable award for three additional years if:
    • 3.0 cumulative GPA is maintained
    • Complete enough credit hours to progress to the next class level

  As an out of state student you may be eligible for the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) instead of the Out of State scholarship. The MSEP award provides tuition at 150% of the in-state rate. If you qualify, the cost of IU Kokomo tuition would be approximately $9,901.38 per academic year excluding mandatory fees. In order to qualify for MSEP you must be a newly admitted eligible student who is a legal resident of one of the following states:

  • Kansas
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri

  • North Dakota
  • Wisconsin
  • Ohio
Tippecanoe County Scholarship
  • Top two admits from each Tippecanoe county high school
  • Admitted by March 1st
  • $1000 renewable scholarship for three additional years
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of a 3.0
  • Complete enough credit hours to progress to the next class level
Study Abroad Scholarship
IU offers a $4,000 scholarship for an IU sponsored International trip. This is a one time award that can be used after the completion of 60 credit hours.
Transfer Student Scholarships

IU Kokomo offers full and part-time scholarships. The $500 and $1,000 scholarships are for students who are currently attending or have attended an accredited institution in the past two years. Students should complete their A.S. or A.A. degree or have 45 or more hours with a 3.0 GPA or above.

  • Students must be admitted by May 15 for fall awards.
  • There is no application. A committee will review all students who meet the requirements and have been admitted by the deadline.
  • Priority will be given to early admits.
  • No previously admitted degree-seeking IU students are eligible.
  • The scholarship is renewable for an additional year if the requirements are met.
Academic Incentives for Athletes

Any student athlete who qualifies for the STAR or ESP scholarship will receive an additional $1500 per year in athletic scholarship.

  • Maintain 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Complete enough credit hours to progress to the next class level
  • Remain a member of an athletic team
  • Additional $1000 is available for each student athlete for their junior and senior year, provided they have:
    • Earned 60 hours (rising juniors) or 90 hours (rising seniors)
    • Maintain 2.5 GPA
    • Earned at least 2 varsity letters
    • Hours from other institutions, ACP, summer courses, etc. will count toward the 60 and 90 hour totals, but the student must have been enrolled at IU Kokomo for their four semesters
Summer Class for Athletes

Tuition and mandatory fees for one three-credit summer course per summer offered at IU Kokomo

  • Must have completed the two previous semesters at IU Kokomo
  • Be a member in good standing on any athletic team for both semesters
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 2.5
IU Kokomo Divresity Scholarship

The IU Kokomo Diversity Scholarship recognizes new students committed to bringing diversity, whether through lived experience, thought, word , or action, to IU Kokomo.

The Diversity Scholarship is $1,500 and is renewable for three additional years.

Eligibility: Student must be admitted and submit scholarship application to IU Kokomo by December 1st.

Renewal Criteria: 

  • Maintain 2.5 GPA
  • Progress to the next class level (i.e. completion of 30 credit hours after 1 year)

The following scholarships have application requirements.

Pre-Professional Scholarship
  • Declared major (B.S. or B.A.) in biology, chemistry, or biological and physical sciences
  • Interest in pursuing studies in a professional school
  • At least one course in high school in each of the following subjects: Calculus, biology, chemistry, and physics
  • A minimum high school GPA of 3.5 (4.0 scale), 10.5 (12.0 scale), or top 10 percent of graduating class
  • 1270 SAT (excluding writing and with a math score of at least 600) or minimum score of 26 ACT
  • Leadership experience in school or community
  • Committed to community service and/or leadership in a campus organization
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Admission by March 1st
  • Application letter of recommendation from a teacher
  • Interview

Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) Scholarship

The Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) provides Ivy Tech Community College students with the opportunity to earn their degree and begin their career in one year or transfer credits to a four-year college to continue their education. IU Kokomo is proud to offer Ivy Tech ASAP graduates a $1,000 scholarship (renewable for one additional year) to be applied toward tuition and mandatory fees. This competitive scholarship recognizes accelerated persistence toward an associate degree and supports continued learning in the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree at IU Kokomo.

Application Deadline

The deadline to submit an application with required documents are listed below. New scholarships will not be awarded for the spring or summer semester.                                                                                                                Fall 2017  • July 1, 2017

Criteria

  • Participation in Ivy Tech Community College’s ASAP Program
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4 point scale at time of application and time of transfer
  • Plan to enroll full time (a minimum of 12 credit hours) at IU Kokomo in the fall following completion of associate degree (excluding summer)
  • First-time transfer students only (must be full time at Ivy Tech Community College at time of application)
  • Submit a Personal Statement (minimum 500 words)

Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP) Scholarship Application

Adult Students in Successful Transition Scholarship (ASIST)

IU Kokomo offers $500 scholarships to first time adult students.

  • Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1
  • Students must be admitted by March 1 for fall awards.
  • Students must submit an essay answering the question; Why did you choose IU Kokomo and how do you expect your experience here to enrich your life? Essays must be no more than 1000 words and be submitted by March 1 to the admissions office.
