Where do I get my cap, gown, tassel and announcements?
You will receive a flyer from Herff Jones, Inc., that will have information for ordering your cap, gown, and announcements. In addition to academic regalia, university class rings will also be available for purchase.
All graduates must rent a cap and gown to participate in the ceremony. If you do not receive the flyer or need a replacement, call the IU Kokomo Office of Alumni Relations at (765) 455-9411. You may place your order during Grad Fair, February 26 and 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Alumni Hall. You may order online through March 22 to take advantage of earlyorder pricing. All orders must be received by March 29. If you can not make it to the Grad Fair, please go to www.herffjones.com/college/iu
You will pick up your cap and gown in Alumni Hall, April 23, 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. You will return your rental unit on campus following the Commencement ceremony in the Cole Room, outside the Library.
What about academic distinction cords?
Academic distinction cords awarded by the university will be presented to graduates on Commencement day by the faculty marshal of each division. Only academic distinction cords awarded for academic achievement may be worn during the ceremony.
Indiana University candidates who have tentatively earned academic distinction in general scholarship are distinguished by fourragéres, which are looped cords worn from the left shoulder. Fourragéres with cream and crimson cords indicate highest distinction; those with all cream cords indicate high distinction; and those with all crimson cords indicate distinction.
Fourragéres, pins, medallions, etc., awarded by honoraries or societies that do not recognize academic achievement may not be worn during the ceremony.
Where is the commencement rehearsal?
Friday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium, a 30-minute rehearsal of the Commencement ceremony is scheduled. The details of the event are outlined and questions answered. Attendance for the rehearsal is not required. On May 3, immediately following Commencement rehearsal, we will have a reception to welcome all December 2012 and May and August 2013 graduates to the IU Alumni Association. Join us for an evening of music and fun! To make your reservations, call the Office of Alumni Relations at (765) 455-9411, or e-mail email@example.com.
Where is the ceremony?
The Commencement ceremony will be held at the IU Kokomo Pavilion on the east side of Virgil and Elizabeth Hunt Hall. Commencement seating will be in the Hunt Hall parking lot. Plan to park in other campus lots. If the ceremony is moved inside, it will take place in Havens Auditorium. The ceremony lasts about 90 minutes.
Immediately following the Commencement ceremony, join fellow graduates, family members, faculty, and staff for a reception in Alumni Hall.
Do I need tickets for seating?
The ceremony is outside with plenty of seating open to everyone except for those seats reserved for graduates and faculty. No tickets are needed for the outside ceremony.
What if it rains?
Should inclement weather force us to move the ceremony inside, there will be two ceremonies; the first will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. Both ceremonies will take place in Havens Auditorium.
The 10:30 a.m. ceremony will include: School of Nursing, Division of Allied Health and School of Education. Graduates in those schools and divisions should report to your assigned classroom for robing at 9:30 a.m.
The 1:30 p.m. ceremony will include: School of Sciences, School of Business and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Graduates in those schools and divisions should report to your assigned classroom for robing at 12:30 p.m.
Seating in Havens Auditorium is limited. When you pick up your cap and gown on April 23-25, you will receive tickets that will be used for admission to the ceremony in Havens Auditorium. The number of tickets you receive will be determined by the number of degree candidates participating in the Commencement ceremony.
