Utility Failure
Utility Failure
In the event of a major utility failure:
-
Immediately notify Physical Plant at ext. 273.

Physical Plant Emergency staff will respond to evaluate the situation and take corrective action.

If you are trapped in the elevator, use the emergency phone to notify the Physical Plant. If the emergency phone does not work,turn on the alarm.

Physical Plant and/or IUPD will order a building evacuation if the safety of faculty, staff and/or students is threatened.

In the event an evacuation deemed necessary:

A building evacuation will occur when the fire alarm sounds and/or when notified by IUPD or Physical Plant emergency staff.

Assist the disabled in exiting the building if possible! Remember that the elevators are reserved for disabled persons.

Do not use elevators in case of fire or during power failures.

Once outside, move to a clear area at least 500 feet awayfrom the affected building(s). Keep the walkways, fire lanes, and hydrants clear for emergency crews.

If requested, assist the emergency crews as necessary.

A campus incident command center may be set up near the emergency site. Keep clear of the command center unless you have official business.

Do not return to an evacuated building unless told to do so by a university official.
