Preparation for Whatever Comes Next

Students see international business concepts in practice
Before June, Shelby Beltz had never been outside the United States. After spending 10 days in Poland, she’s now considering living outside the country. “I enjoyed the laid-back lifestyle, the work-life balance, and the culture,” she said, adding that she’s already identified the small town where she wants to live, based on the nearby scenery. “I can’t live near castle ruins in the U.S.,” she said.
School of Business earns AACSB reaccreditation
Experiential learning opportunities, as well as faculty committed to student success, have earned the Indiana University Kokomo School of Business a five-year reaccreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by fewer than five percent of the world’s business programs.
Economic experts predict strong U.S. economy in 2019
Economists are optimistic about the 2019 forecast — but caution that rougher weather may be ahead. Faculty from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business presented the annual Economic Outlook Panel at IU Kokomo Wednesday, highlighting what to expect in the next year, from the local to the global economy. They spoke to more than 100 business professionals, government officials, and students from the Kokomo CEO program. The experts report that economic indicators are positive, with the national economy projected to grow close to 3 percent in 2019.
Accounting students get inside look at profession
More than a dozen Indiana University Kokomo accounting students gained an inside look at their chosen career — and made connections to help them get started. Students met professional accountants at OneAmerica, the Indiana CPA Society, and Katz, Sapper and Miller LLP in Indianapolis, with the chance to ask questions and see what skills they need to succeed in the field. Olga Korne, lecturer in accounting, said students often have ideas of what is involved in a career, but visiting in person allows them a chance to see it for themselves.
