When is the Radiography Application Deadline?

December 1, of the year prior to your anticipated year admission to the Radiography program.

When is the Medical Imaging Technology Application Deadline?

December 1, of the year you anticipate admission to the core MIT program.

Am I required to Job Shadow?

Students applying for the Radiography program must document a minimum of sixteen hours of observations in medical imaging services. Eight of the sixteen hours must be completed in a hospital setting.

What is the length of each program?

Medical Coding Certificate requires completion of 24 credit hours which may be taken in any order.

Associate of Science in Radiography requires completion of 21 credit hours of prerequisite coursework followed by 56 hours of core courses.

Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology requires completion of an A.S. in Radiography or equivalent along with up to an additional 24 credit hours of prerequisite course completions. This is followed by between 30-34 core course hours in Medical Imaging Technology.

Bachelor of Science in Health Science requires a minimum of 121 credit hours, which includes required IU Kokomo campus general education requirements.

Do I have to be ARRT certified in Radiography to be admitted to the Medical Imaging Technology Program?

Yes, the program assessment has found that program graduates who have previously completed an ARRT certification in Radiography perform better in the edvanced credentialing examinations. Employers are now seeking applicants who are multi-credentialed to fill open positions because of their versatility.

The IU Kokomo Medical Imaging Technology Program has earned ARRT 'primary pathway' status. What does this mean for a student considering programs in advanced imaging?

ARRT primary pathway status allows a student to be certification eligible upon successful completion of the MIT program without requiring additional scan hours or exams post-graduation.  All modality concentrations are currently registry eligible upon graduation.

Am I required to complete a background check and drug screen?

Yes, both the A.S. and B.S. degree programs in the Radiologic Sciences require satisfactory completion of a background check in compliance with federal and state law. In addition, drug screenings are required due to contractual agreements with clinical affiliates.

What are the physical requirements?

Students must pass a physical examination as outlined in the Program Handbook. In addition, students will be required to provide proof of all required immunizations as outlined in the Program Handbook along with an initial 2-step TB test followed by annual testing.

Is health insurance required for all radiologic science students?

Radiography and Medical Imaging Technology students enrolled are required to have comprehensive health insurance. If you do not have comprehensive health insurance you have the option of using the voluntary medical care plan offered through Indiana University.  For more details on this plan, please contact Student Affairs.

What supplies might I need once accepted into the MIT program at IU Kokomo?

Uniforms are required per the MIT program handbook guidelines.

A laptop computer is a requirement for participation in the MIT program. Please notify the instructor if finances do not permit the purchase of a laptop computer.

Indiana Requirements to Practice

A State license is required to operate an X-ray machine.  The State accepts ARRT credentials to satisfy educational requirements. Students entering the radiography core courses must obtain a student permit from the Indiana State Department of Health prior to attending clincal education courses.
