Respiratory therapists care for patients who are having difficulty breathing. Patients with asthma, emphysema, or COPD may be treated by respiratory therapists. Respiratory therapists will treat a range of patients from premature infants to elderly patients. Respiratory therapists may work in high-stress situations such as in the emergency room treating trauma patients.
