Degree Requirements
Degree Requirements
The degree includes 120 hours of total course work including the following:
IU Kokomo General Education Requirements (41 credit hours):
- Communication (W131, W132, S121)
- Quantitative Literacy [One math course M118 or higher + Stat (fulfilled in the major)]
- Critical Thinking [one course; required by psychology major (i.e., P211)
- Cultural Diversity (one course)
- Ethics and Civic Engagement (one course)
- Social Science (two courses from different disciplines; one course can be P103)
- Humanities and Arts (one course in Arts and one course in Literature or Philosophy)
- Physical and Life Sciences (two courses from two different disciplines, including one lab)
Additional General Education Requirements (12-15 credit hours):
- Three Physical and Biological Science courses (two must be lab courses)
Psychology Major Requirements, General Science Track (39-42 credit hours; all psychology courses require a grade of C- or higher to count towards the major):
Required Courses (15 credit hours):
- P103 General Psychology (3 credits; taken as part of general education)
- P211 Methods of Experimental Psychology (3 credits) or P259 Introduction to Psychological Inquiry (3 credits)
- P216 Lifespan Development
- K300 Statistical Techniques (3 credits)
- P355 Experimental Methods - not required for students who declared a psychology major before Fall 2012
- P459 History and Systems of Psychology (3 credits)
Two of the following four courses (6 credits):
- P303 Health Psychology
- P319 Psychology of Personality
- P320 Social Psychology
- P324 Abnormal Psychology
Two of the following three courses (6 credits):
- P325 Psychology of Learning
- P326 Behavioral Neuroscience
- P335 Cognitive Psychology
One of these two, two-semester courses (6 credits):

Two Psychology electives (6 credit hours)
Additional courses to total 120 credit hours. Students will be advised to take additional elective courses in mathematics and in other scientific fields.
