The PRAXIS Series I & II
New information from the Indiana Department of Education, as of August 24, 2012: Praxis I will continue to be the required basic skills assessment through August 31, 2013. Candidates may take Praxis II until August 31, 2013.
The School of Education at IU Kokomo requires successful passage of two parts of the PRAXIS Series: PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II. Each portion is described below. PRAXIS I, or an acceptable alternative (see an academic advisor), must be met successfully prior to formal admission into a Teacher Education Program. PRAXIS II exams are specific to the intended licensure area(s). The appropriate exam(s) must be met successfully prior to student teaching.
Very important information is contained in The PRAXIS Series Information Bulletin 2012-13. For example, there is a procedure to request testing accommodations thru Disability Services and a process to obtain a fee waiver. It is highly recommended that you print a copy and read thoroughly. Only a brief summary of PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II is included on this page.
PRAXIS I
PRAXIS I, a series of tests, also known as the Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST), measure basic academic skills. There are three portions: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Candidates for the Teacher Education Program must meet the qualifying score for each test prior to formal admission into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). The qualifying score is established by the Indiana Office of Educator Licensing and Development.
