The Library subscribes to Choice Reviews Online, the online version of Choice, which is published by the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association.
Choice is a monthly publication for academic libraries that features reviews and evaluations of more than 5,000 books per year. The reviews are written by subject area specialists and are highly regarded for their accuracy and authority. Beyond the reviews themselves, issues also generally include bibliographic essays on various subjects, as well as a "forthcoming feature" that identifies soon-to-be-published books on a particular subject.
The IU Kokomo Library offers access to Choice Reviews Online for authenticated IU Kokomo Library users. You may access this electronic resource on the "C" tab of our Databases A-Z guide. For convenience, you may also use this direct link to Choice Reviews Online. Please note that if you are accessing this resource from off-campus you will be prompted to log in using your IU Kokomo credentials before you are directed to Choice Reviews Online.
Choice Reviews Online also provides the ability to search one or multiple issues of the journal for books on specific topics or by author. You may also create a personal account, which then allows you to receive alerts when books are reviewed in your area of interest, and create lists of titles that are of interest to you or to share information with your colleagues. You may also request the library purchase a book by sending an email of the review to the Technical Services Librarian, Ria Lukes, who manages book requests from library users.
The Library has created a slip approval plan with YBP. Using the IU Kokomo Library Collection Development Policy, an approval plan profile was developed so as to allow the library to receive electronic approval slips of newly-published books in areas relevant to the University's curriculum. These approval slips include the bibliographic details necessary for ordering, as well as pricing, content levels, and tables of contents. Approval slips can be e-mailed, or you can request to become a selector. If you wish to see the approval slips, please contact the Technical Services Librarian.
