Book Review Programs

The Library subscribes to Choice Reviews Onine and Choice Cards, both of which are published by the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division of the American Library Association. Choice Reviews Online is the electronic version of this resource selection tool, and Choice Cards is offered in print.

Choice is a monthly publication for academic libraries that features reviews and evaluations of more than 5,000 books per year. The reviews are written by subject area specialists and are highly regarded for their accuracy and authority. The IU Kokomo Library offers access to Choice Reviews Online for authenticated IU Kokomo Library users. You may access this electronic resource on the "C" tab of our Databases A-Z guide. For convenience, you may also use this direct link to Choice Reviews Online. Please note that, if you are accessing this resource from off-campus, you will be prompted to log in to our proxy server with your IU Kokomo credentials before you are directed to Choice Reviews Online.

You may search the monthly Choice issue via Choice Reviews Online for books or materials in a subject area of interest. You may also create a personal account, which then allows you to create lists of titles that are of interest to you. Creating a personal account also allows you to share information with colleagues or with IU Kokomo's Technical Services Librarian, Ria Lukes, who also manages the library's acquisitions.

The Library also distributes the print version of Choice – i.e. Choice Cards – to appropriate faculty members in order to aid them in their selection of books that support their curricula. If you wish to receive Choice Card reviews for a specific subject area, please notify the Technical Services Assistant.

Yankee Book Plan Approval Slips

The Library has created a slip approval plan with Yankee Book Peddler. Using the Collection Development Policy, an approval plan profile was developed so as to allow the library to receive electronic approval slips of newly-published books in areas relevant to the University's curriculum. These approval slips include the bibliographic details necessary for ordering, as well as pricing, content levels, and tables of contents. Approval slips can be e-mailed, or you can request to become a selector. If you wish to see the approval slips, please contact the Technical Services Librarian. View an example of a slip at the following link: Yankee Book Peddler slip.
