Government Documents Collection
"Free access to government information for all."
This statement is the basis of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), which started in 1813 after a joint resolution was passed in Congress. The IU Kokomo Library joined the FDLP as a selective depository in 1969. Currently, the IU Kokomo Library selects about 31% of the items available from the Government Printing Office (GPO). This includes books, microfiche, CD-ROMs, and videos. We do not own the material; we agree to house it in the library and make it available. By law, the material is made available for use by the general public at no cost.
These government materials are unique and include items such as congressional documents, laws, presidential documents, environmental, health, justice and other agency publications, census materials, and tax information. Many government publications are now available in electronic format. Documents are listed in IUCAT, the IU online library catalog. Federal documents will be found in several locations on the first floor of the Library. The majority of state documents are interfiled with the book collection on the second floor.
We have created a Government Documents Research Guide to help you locate government documents of special interest to you. If you need help, please Ask a Librarian.
